New sat nav technology revealed

The latest research could enable safer travel to ferry ports for motorists, it has been claimed.

A range of European studies have lead to technology which allows sat nav systems to be updated with the latest developments, reports ICT Results.

The FeedMAP service allows drivers to send any road changes into suppliers, which will then transmit new conditions on to the device, it may interest those considering a ferry trip to Spain to hear.

In doing so, differences between the system’s maps and actual issues such as road closures can be detected and dealt with.

Maxine Flament, speaking to the news provider for It’s Europe, which is backing the development of such technology, commented: "The last verification will always remain to be done by the map centres using their other sources of information."

Earlier this month, research by the AA found sat navs are the most popular form of in-car equipment.
